SAWYER AND COURTNEY - URBAN ENGAGEMENT SESSION - CHICAGO, IL

SAWYER AND COURTNEY - URBAN ENGAGEMENT SESSION - CHICAGO, IL

So often we are shooting our engagement sessions out in nature. Atop a mountain or in a field with wide open spaces and no one around as the sun is setting. Although every once in a while, either time or space does not allow us to explore the great outdoors, or maybe it is the urban, steely skyscrapers that better represent the couple. Both are true, especially when you’re couple lives in Chicago! Last year I ran around downtown with city residents Sawyer and Courtney trying to capture them in a more urban setting which better matches their personality and captures where they live while allowing us to work within their schedule a bit better. Plus, they had a few secret spots they wanted to show me!

ANNA AND CAM - ROCKY MOUNTAIN DAY AFTER SESSION

ANNA AND CAM - ROCKY MOUNTAIN DAY AFTER SESSION

We love Colorado and we love the mountains! We also love couples who embrace the outdoors and aren’t afraid to adventure a little bit in their wedding dress or scuff up their shoes a bit. Unfortunately, a traditional wedding timeline doesn’t always allow the flexibility to really go off adventuring, just you and your beloved. There are so many constraints and certain places you have to be at certain times, that you won’t always have the time to drive an hour up to the top of a mountain for an epic sunset. You have things to get ready, vows to say, guests to entertain, dance moves to bust. There is a lot and you want to make sure you give all of your attention to this once in a lifetime event. But you still want the epic mountaintop photos, or maybe there is another special landscape that is just too far of a drive away to fit in on your wedding day, or maybe you want to capture the perfect light. That’s when the day after session can really come in handy. Let’s tell you how Anna and Cam did it…

BRYAN AND AMBER - LAKE PLACID LODGE, ADIRONDACKS - WINTER WEDDING

BRYAN AND AMBER - LAKE PLACID LODGE, ADIRONDACKS - WINTER WEDDING

You could not have dreamed of a more perfect, winter wonderland, wedding for Bryan and Amber. Up in the mountains surrounding Lake Placid, weather and visibility can never be certain, especially in early January. However, the morning of January 5, 2019, the snowstorms subsided and the clouds raised above the mountains giving our couple the perfect conditions to explore this picturesque region on their wedding day.

DYLAN AND ALLIS - DENVER IN HOME (QUARANTINE) SESSION

DYLAN AND ALLIS - DENVER IN HOME (QUARANTINE) SESSION

A few weeks ago, we were hanging out with some old friends in Denver. We were catching some shows, playing some games, going to markets, and not socially distancing at all. In fact, all four of us were crashing in Dylan and Allis’ cute apartment near downtown Denver. Who knew that a few weeks later everything would have changed.

MIKE AND EMILY - ZION SPRINGS - HAMILTON, VIRGINIA

MIKE AND EMILY - ZION SPRINGS - HAMILTON, VIRGINIA

One thing we learned in September: Zion Springs knows how to put on the perfect barn wedding!
Surrounded by vineyards and a forested river, guests have access to the picturesque barn and accompanying bed and breakfast for the entire weekend. To the owners of Zion Springs, the wedding isn’t just about the wedding day, but about the whole wedding weekend experience. Having a fire the night before with friends and family who traveled from out of state, midnight oven fired pizza the night of your wedding, and even a brunch and lazy morning together the day after. Last September, Mike and Emily invited Olivia and I down to Virginia to see how fun and relaxing this abundance of time adds to your wedding.
